Vulcanization is a process in which the rubber in the sole is treated with sulfur and heat, thereby imparting strength, greater elasticity, durability, resiliency etc. Although this process helps with the construction of the shoe, it tends to make the shoe run a 1/2 size larger than traditional skate shoes.
